The Paralympics are ableist.

I hate it when people try and point to the Paralympics as an example of ableism not being prevalent in todays’ society. As if the Paralympics are in any way representative of the issues a differently-abled person faces on a day to day basis. Most differently-abled people don’t get the opportunity to swim in Olympic class swimming pools, most differently-abled people don’t get to travel all over the world, be paid an athlete’s salary, stay in fancy hotels and have millions of people watch them. At the end of the day, the Paralympics are just another showcase of privilege which does nothing to actually improve the lives of differently-abled people or address the extreme prejudice they face from society.
